In an incident outside of Syracuse tonight, multiple police officers were shot, with authorities confirming a minimum of two casualties. The event occurred at approximately 8:15 PM.
Onondaga County Sheriff Toby Shelley said that the officers were initially responding to a stolen vehicle report in Syracuse, leading them to a residence in Salina. At the scene of the shooting, one individual sustained injuries, and another has been taken into custody, according to Shelley.
Reported by WSYR, the ABC affiliate in Syracuse, one officer was from the Onondaga County Sheriff's Office, and the other from the City of Syracuse police department. Both officers suffered serious injuries and are reportedly in critical condition.
Near the site of the incident, a Ring doorbell captured the sounds of multiple gunshots and the subsequent commotion. New York state has some of the most stringent gun control policies in the U.S.
