Meanwhile, we don’t know when the lights will come back on in Florida, but even in the baleful darkness some folk are looking up to see the Angels in the Sky.

While some folk in Florida struggle for their very survival in the aftermath of horrific Hurricane Ian, their elected officials, including the president and vice president, continue on a path of “politics as usual”. Today, October 2, is the Feast of the Holy Guardian Angels, and for stranded Floridians, on its mission, the U.S. Coast Guard MH-65 Aircrew from Air Station Miami are the ANGELS OF THE SKY. “Coast Guard crews have been rescuing people stranded in communities in Florida devastated by Hurricane Ian. An aircrew on an MH-65 Dolphin helicopter from Air Station Miami spent much of Thursday pulling residents and their pets from flooded neighborhoods on Sanibel Island. Petty Officer 2nd Class Tyler Kilbane captured remarkable video from a camera mounted on his helmet.” (Fox News, Oct. 1, 2022)
Separated by thousands of geographical miles from the devastation in a place where thousands of Nova Scotians remain without electricity a week after Hurricane Fiona, CFP is being kept in touch about the devastation in Florida through its ‘American Family’ trying to hang on in Fort Myers. It was Stacey from our American Family who sent the remarkable footage (above) to us today. Whoever thought back in 2008 when Stacey and her husband first came aboard as members of CFP’s American Family that the world would have ever come to this? The best updated news on Hurricane Ian comes, not from the New York Times, Washington Post or cable television, but from little independent Conservative Tree House, home to the self-described “Rag Tag Bunch of Conservative Misfits” over at The Last Refuge, whose main writer ‘Sundance’ reports to the outside world right from the very spot where the hurricane made landfall.

This is what Sundance reported in ‘Hurricane Ian Recovery Update Day 3’: “First things first.  We are blessed by a loving God who continues to provide the greatest nourishment we need, food for the soul.  You’ll find it all around, including in the gift of a temperature irrelevant shower, the first in five days, and a belly full of beef stew, Dinty Moore of course.   Finest gourmet dining in years. Perfect. “Airborne search and rescue efforts continue with particular emphasis on the barrier islands and back bay region.  If you haven’t watched the video of U.S. Coast Guard MH-65 Dolphin aircrew from Airstation Miami, you should.  It’s a great example of the hundreds of rescue flights taking place all day, and the kid who used the mirror to signal the flight crew and protect his grandma is, well, sharp. “Again, if you evacuated the coastal region of Southwest Florida (SWFL), stay put where you are.  There is no power and no water system; literally nothing to sustain you that you do not bring yourself.  If you do enter this region to check on your property, do so with the intent to leave again because there’s no current timeline for any restoration. A strict sundown curfew remains in effect throughout.” (See Full Update) Meanwhile, we don’t know when the lights will come back on in Florida, but even in the baleful darkness some folk are looking up to see the Angels in the Sky. May the God-appointed Guardian Angels of all Floridians and Nova Scotians keep them safe from all danger and harm.
