UK art news: record sales for artist

William North

Recession is over after an Oxford artist sold 46 paintings in seven days.

William North, who lives at Oddington Crossing, Charlton-on-Otmoor near Kidlington, has sold 13 more paintings than he did this time last year. For the past 25 years he has opened his studio every November and this year 200 people visited. “I also received eight commissions,” says William, who sent out 2,000 invitations. “It’s not quite as good as I was doing five years ago but I am very happy. “We had visitors from Gloucester, Northants, Leamington Spa and the furthest was from Manchester; they who won the draw for a painting. Most people came from Oxford and Oxfordshire including our friends from East Hendred, who always come. “So it's back to the easel now to build up stock for Art Weeks in May.”
