Watch Yale students sign a petition to repeal the 1st Amendment - to protect their 'safe space'

Sad.

I'm in my 40's. That means that, for me, the late '80s and early '90s were my high school and college years. During that time (and before it) I was always taught that you "protect the speech you hate, to guarantee the speech you love." The old example was always "we tolerate ugly Klan demonstrations, because in doing so we're ensuring OUR rights as well." Apparently, though I'm not yet fifty, I'm a geriatric fuddy-duddy. Protecting speech is "the old way."

These days, protecting liberty is out and protecting your delicate virgin ears from aural assault is in. Students at America's bastions of higher learning demand that their "safe spaces" remain safe, and that means you can't just go around "saying things" or "voicing opinions." If you do, you might upset someone. We can't have that. So, righteous, upstanding students at Yale University signed a petition - to repeal the 1st Amendment. Now I'll admit; there may be some deceptive editing going on here. I'd like to see this guy's entire spiel, uncut, before completely condemning these kids. However, if he managed to get even one Ivy-Leaguer to openly admit their disdain for the 1st Amendment - and I have no trouble believing that he did - it's utterly chilling. ...Or it's an indictment of the pathetic education they're receiving at the university in question. Come to think of it, this kind of reminds me of the time "The Man Show" got women to sign a petition to "end the suffrage of women" or the bit Penn & Teller did where they had environmentalists demanding that the government ban water. In both cases petitioners relied on the stupidity of signers - and they weren't disappointed. The difference here, though, is that the person gathering signatures is being far less cagey with the language. I suppose the best we can hope for is that social justice warriors are just morons.
