Refugees in boats

We are tired of being the ‘rug’ for the world

I don’t know if anyone is taking a poll or trying to find out how Canadians feel about the current situation in BC where a boat load of ‘refugees’ are on our shores and are now entitled to ‘our laws’ etc., but they should.

I have never received as many emails or phone calls of absolute disgust of our laws making us ‘sitting ducks’ for the world’s poor and suffering. None of the people who have contacted me nor myself are hateful and uncaring people but we are tired of being the ‘rug’ for all causes of the world. I am a very compassionate person but I know when I am being taken advantage of, which seems to have become the accepted ‘Canadian way.” In the meantime, we are taxed to the hilt and Canadians have had enough. Our Conservative government knew of the abuse of our immigration and refugee system long ago and despite knowing of the ships (there are more on the way) headed for Canada for months, did not push a law to ensure that those who enter our country illegally be sent home forthwith. Surely they have resources enough to see what abuse Australia experienced and how they put some laws in place to prevent this abuse of refugee applicants? Canada will, until we change our laws, always be the ‘free-for-all bread basket’ for every Third World refugee who consider us like ‘winning the lottery!’ How do you think Canadians feel knowing we are going to pay for this continued open house. We must understand that illegal activity will go to the place of least resistance and that puts Canada as the bulls eye World Wide!! Our concern MUST BE to make the refugees safe in their OWN homeland and make their place a good place to live so there are more places on this earth safe to live other than Canada. I think that perhaps the Liberal government’s attitude of only ‘politically correct’ attitudes need be printed has successfully silenced those of us who wished to express our concern for refugees who land in Canada and are using our more than liberal legal refugee system to stay at our, the taxpayers’ cost whether they are legitimate or not. Being a child of an immigrant, I feel that the kindness and caring that had once been exhibited by Canada and the people has been warped over the past decade and now is being taken advantage of. If you think I am politically wrong, then why is Canada known around the world that when a refugee gets into Canada, it is like ‘winning the lottery!’ I didn’t make that up – that is a fact. I tire of being a duct taped unable to speak my mind Canadian for fear of offending someone. That attitude has made us ‘soft’ and ‘vulnerable’ and prevented valuable and intelligent discourse. L. G.
