We Can't Let The Cure Be Worse Than The Disease

We Can't Let The Cure Be Worse Than The DiseaseRecently, Rush Limbaugh was off the air for several days to undergo chemotherapy for stage 4 lung cancer.  Initially he did well on chemo but then serious side effects kicked in.  His legs swelled to where he needed a wheelchair to get to where he was going .  He developed a blood clot in his left leg, a high fever and other severe reactions.  He had to stop the chemo.   But Rush points out the irony, the chemo was working, killing the cancer.  Yet his body couldn't tolerate the treatment.  That's because Chemotherapy works by destroying malignant cells faster than healthy cells.  Yet it does kill normal cells, healthy cells which can ravage an otherwise healthy body.    Our task force doctors have prescribed a strong chemo to fight the coronavirus, a national shutdown.  The chemo is working to slow the rate of infection but as the healthy cells begin to die off, the side-effects kick in.   Stagnation weakens the heart (our economy)   If the country is driven into a deep recession or worse depression, the heart will suffer possibly irreversible damage.

The chemo is shutting down our nerve centers, businesses, factories, and service industries

The chemo is shutting down our nerve centers, businesses, factories, and service industries.  Their shutdown may eventually lead to shortages, to massive unemployment. But the most debilitating effect of this treatment is our weakened immune system, our Constitution.  As governors flex their dictatorial muscle, 31 states now have stay-at-home orders which is effectively martial law ordered by civilians rather than military.  These mini Maduro's are ramping up state control every day.   Delaware: Gov. Carney issues order for state police to stop cars with out-of-state plates.   "Your papers, pleaseNew Jersey, residents are no longer able to travel between the hours of 8 p.m. to 5 a.m   Someone tell me how that limits the virus.   And the list goes on, closed parks, beaches where you can't even take a walk, a clampdown on Americans leaving their homes under any condition.   But we can't complain, right?  They're just trying to keep us safe.  Of all tyrannies, a tyranny sincerely exercised for the good of its victims may be the most oppressive. - C. S. Lewis We're told we have to stay in lockdown because we can't risk exposure to the killer virus.  The panic press makes it sound like the movie Outbreak where a punctured glove is a death sentence?  No, it's not.

The panic press makes it sound like the movie Outbreak where a punctured glove is a death sentence

  • Many corona virus patients (80%) have mild symptoms
  • The mortality rate for the Chinese virus is less than one percent - "98% to 99% of people infected with the virus will recover."
  • Plus an anti-malarial  drug, hydroxychloroquine is showing great promise as an effective treatment for the virus, possibly a prophylactic (preventative measure).
  • And thank God the virus doesn't seriously affect kids
"Severe disease is very rare in children, Its not yet completely clear whether this is because children are not being infected as regularly or do they just not get sick." But if the virus isn't the kiss of death, why is America shut down?  Why did so many countries around the world shut down? The real danger of COVID-19 is transmissibility the rate of infection:  This virus spreads like wildfire, hundreds, thousands get sick at the same time.   But the true danger of coronavirus is unlikely to be the death toll. Experts say health systems could easily become overwhelmed by the number of cases requiring hospitalization – and, often ventilation to support breathing.

But if the virus isn't the kiss of death, why is America shut down?

Bingo!  A novel (new) virus that's crazy contagious is what brought countries around the world to their knees.  Their healthcare systems couldn't handle the numbers and once the virus has taken root there's no way to catch up, to get needed ventilators, to  build new hospitals.   However President Trump met this challenge early on.  He restricted travel from China; assembled the best of the best for his task force; worked with private industry to retool and produce personal protective equipment, (masks, ventilators, gloves, and gowns) and respirators;  used the military to build hospitals in hot spots;  deployed hospital ships where needed; and cut red tape and pushed hard for vaccines and antiviral drugs to be approved.   Due to these measures, the threat of an overwhelming outbreak has been neutralized.  Governor Andrew Cuomo admits he doesn't need more PPE or ventilators..  The experts are now backing away from their models because the doomsday forecasts aren't panning out.  Could the models be wrong (gasp)?   So if we've neutralized the primary threat of meeting the demands of the contagion how much longer does America stay in lockdown?    Our keepers praise us  for valiantly staying in our living rooms.  They remind us Americans are strong, brave, resilient.  We got through the Great Depression, two World Wars, the bubonic plague,, and many other catastrophic terrible events.   But we didn't get through the depression by stuffing cash under our mattresses, didn't win wars by hiding in the trenches, and didn't survive the bubonic plague by cowering in shelters.  The truth is Americans can't be united and strong when we're locked up in solitary confinement.

President Trump met this challenge early on

We're supposed to be grateful the shutdown kept us safe.  But how grateful will Americans be when they didn't get the virus but are now jobless, can't feed their family.  How grateful will the small business owner be when the company he invested his life's savings in goes belly-up, when he/she loses everything.  How many of those people out of desperation will accept socialism to keep the government as the caretaker, to keep government dollars flowing.   And how many would have rather taken their chances with a virus they had a 99% chance of beating rather than lose their livelihood, their dreams, their future without putting up a fight.   We can resume our lives and still follow guidelines.  We can avoid the sick and elderly, can social distance without government oversight, can even keep washing our hands.  So why are we still in lockdown?  The media has succeeded in shifting the purpose of the shutdown from preparing for an overwhelmed healthcare system to keeping people from getting sick.   Media set the conditions to reopen (a doctor's note) back when the President mentioned Easter as an open date.  They pounced, did he consult with the doctors, did they agree to his plan.  If not, who is he to risk outbreaks, to trade lives for dollars.

This maneuver effectively put the doctors in charge of running the country.   Ok, so when will the doctors let America return to normal.   "You've got to be realistic and you've got to understand that you don't make the timeline, the virus makes the timeline." - Dr. Fauci  So the press decides the conditions to reopen our country (doctor's note) and the doctors defer to the virus for a timeline.  What could go wrong?   Hopefully the President will advocate for the patient, tell the doctors to stop the chemo before it's too late.  While the chemo (shutdown) is working to lower the infection rate, the patient (America) is getting weaker by the day.  Soon it will be America in the ICU, America on a respirator.   Iron rusts from disuse; water loses its purity from stagnation... even so does inaction sap the vigor of the mind. - Leonardo da Vinci As the President tweeted.   "WE CANNOT LET THE CURE BE WORSE THAN THE PROBLEM ITSELF,"
