If you think people are interested in Benghazi, you're a complete blithering hayseed. No one cares. It's just you. Everyone else has moved on. The only people keep this story alive are a minute group of Tea Party crackpots.
That's the administration line, and it was repeated yesterday by senior White House advisor David Plouffe.
Here's the clip, from This Week
78%. Is that a minority?
Now, admittedly, this Anderson Robbins Research (D) / Shaw & Company Research (R) poll was taken back in August. A new round of polling done in April puts the number of voters who think the administration is hiding something "not-phony" at 61%.
WH advisor David Plouffe: '60% of voters' represents a 'loud delusional minority' driving Benghazi story
This is lower, but still a majority. Besides, you would expect that 78% to slide a bit over the course of a quiet, lie-filled, nine months. The same poll showed that 60% of voters wanted Congress to keep digging.
More importantly, all previous poll numbers reflect a time when Americans had been misled by the claim that the administration had turned over its entire Benghazi email archive. We'll have to see the next batch of data, but how much would you like to bet - now that the 61% have been proven right - that the new numbers look roughly the same as they did last year?
...Seems to me the only "delusional minority" is the 17-35% of ideologues who desperately cling to the idea that "there's nothing to see here."
