The current government has failed. Our natural heritage, our economy and our way of life are in trouble

What is your definition of “Environmental Protection”?

All too often the individuals or groups entrusted with environmental protection do just the opposite. Environmental protection is the same as every other aspect of life. It is about maintaining a balance. Humans are part of this balance. We need homes to live in and a place to work and provide for our families. Every creature on the face of the earth changes their environment to provide them selves with a home (shelter) and substance. Why should we be any different?

Any time bureaucrats are entrusted with environmental protection it the environment that suffers and the taxpayer that pay the cost. This is the sad truth in the way our currant system is evolving. Most times bureaucrats are driven by greed and are manipulated by big business. If a big corporation makes a donation to an un-elected Old Boys club, land use restrictions and real environmental concerns are swept a side. Farmers and rural landowners protect, use, enjoy and make their living from their land. Why would they harm it? It is these people that are forced to adhere to excessive and costly regulations and land use restrictions. A prospector’s permit is $25 and under the mining act they can not be impeded by the Ministry of Environment or Ministry of Natural Resources. A permit to open a quarry for aggregate extraction I believe is only $2,500. We need to demand consistency and accountability from government. It is ironic that the government claims that they have no authority over the bureaucrats they have appointed and entrusted with environmental protection. They must be held accountable to government and the taxpayer. Climate change and the rise and fall of wild-life populations are part of “Natural Succession”. This process continues with or with out man’s influence. When a property matures, plant and wild-life species change because the ideal habitat changes for a particular species, through natural succession, has changed. Some species increase while others decline. Man dose have an affect on the environment and if we let things get too far out of balance, Man will be removed through natural succession and the environment will continue to change with out man as a participant. Passion for protecting our environment I believe is part of our very being. This passion is not served well by government or bureaucrats. We need someone new at the helm. The current government has failed. Our natural heritage, our economy and our way of life are in trouble.
