Television news networks are no longer fulfilling their responsibility to the American public. Due to this fact, a citizens action campaign is underway to FIRE the MEDIA. This action is being undertaken by nationwide volunteers, via this online network, for reasons of negligence by corporate controlled mainstream media to live up to their licensing requirements: namely to provide public service dissemination of vital information for the public good.
Since the emergence of cable ‘News Networks’ the quality and diligence of television journalism has degraded to a form of ‘entertainment’ - which places its emphasis on “Image’” over substance - in a format of biased commentaries in lieu of objective, informed reporting of important current events.
Television network newscasts have substituted ethics and conscientious inquiry with repetitive, frequently trivial and overdramatized “lead stories” within a format designed to capture commercial ratings and an intent of swaying, rather than informing, public opinion. TV “personalities” who substitute for trained journalists use this format to propound biased personal opinions in place of objective, neutral studied presentation of the facts.
FIRE the MEDIA campaign calls for a return to the crucial historic role of a Free Press to respect and preserve the public interest - in place of the corporate controlled network “talking points” that now predetermine ‘news’ contents on behalf of their own self interest.
