Billion-Dollar Gas Plant Boondoggle to Blame for Energy Price Hikes

TORONTO, ON: The Canadian Taxpayers Federation (CTF) is blaming Ontario’s Liberal government and the cost of their gas plant cancellations for electricity rate increases that came into affect today. The price for off-peak power has increased by 7.5 per cent per kilowatt-hour, while peak hour rates have risen by 4 per cent. Both increases are significantly higher than the rate of inflation.

WARNING: Government May Be Bad For Your Health

If you were just to look at the data, it would be reasonable to assume that working for the government is bad for your health. Here’s some proof: government employees working for the province of Ontario took an average of 10.5 days sick days in 2012. Compare that to just 5.8 sick days among people not working for the government in Ontario. If you work for the government of Ontario, you are 81 per cent more likely to book the day off than those not working for the government.
