The lowdown from my dinner with Dr. Ben Carson

Last Saturday night was not the first time my wife and I had had dinner with Dr. Carson and his wife. This time it was with about 300 friends and supporters of Victory Over Diabetes. It was a fundraising dinner and Dr. Carson was the keynote speaker, and I had the pleasure of introducing him.

Three action steps to preserve our life, liberty and pursuit of happiness

Editor's Note: The following is excerpted from Herman Cain's recent speech to the Western Conservative Conference. Most people can quote the part of the Declaration of Independence that speaks to our inalienable right to life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness. The founders had a conviction that anybody in this great nation should have the right to pursue happiness as long as you don’t infringe on somebody else’s liberty or life from conception.

VIDEO: Obama tells man who can't afford ObamaCare to get rid of cable, cell phone

President Obama appeared on Spanish-language media the other day, including Telemundo and Univision, to promote ObamaCare signups. What he wasn't expecting, however, was a viewer challenging his assertion that ObamaCare is really "affordable". But the president was ready with a helpful suggesetion. Hey. If most of you people weren't spending all that money on your cell phones and cable TV, you could afford health insurance!

Contest! Pick the Liberal Lunacy of the Week!

We've been having fun on the show this morning talking about some especially choice examples of liberal lunacy that we've seen this week. But there is really no reason we should have all the fun.

Monthly job creation averages: Reagan 233,000; Obama 61,000

The Obama White House really hopes you remain as ignorant as possible about recent American history. That is especially true when they announce monthly job numbers, like those that came out yesterday. The Labor Department has announced that 175,000 jobs were created in February. The U6 unemployment rate - the real unemployment rate that includes the underemployed and those who have given up looking - was 12.6 percent.

ObamaCare: One big mistake defines a presidency

It’s frustrating sometimes to think about how America could have spent the past five years, and what we could have focused on. Whether we had a Democrat or Republican president, we could have spent that time debating the tax code, energy policy, the regulatory structure, the nation’s role on the international stage, the nation’s fiscal struggles, the problems of inner cities . . . you could go on all day.

Three cheers for Darrell Issa

I'm getting a little tired of the suggestion that Darrell Issa did something wrong the other day when he cut off the microphone of Elijah Cummings - his colleague and the ranking Democrat on the House Oversight and Government Reform Committee.

The strange perspective of Planet Democrat

I flew on the Concorde supersonic jet one time, before it was discontinued as a commercial airline jet. The ride was both exhilarating and scary. Flying faster than the speed of sound seemed pretty cool at first, but when we could actually see the speed displayed on a screen at the front of the cabin, it made me nervous!

New York Mayor de Blasio kicks charter schools out of city buildings

New York City had plenty of warning that it was electing, in Bill de Blasio, a doctrinaire liberal whose first loyalty would always be to liberal interest groups like teachers’ unions. Maybe they didn’t understand that meant he would come against the interests of children.

How can Democrats lie like this without being totally embarrassed?

The Obama Administration and other Democrats in Congress are embarrassing this nation with their lies, deception and political spin. This is not about being a Republican or Democrat, or a conservative or liberal. This is not about being black or white or non-white.

Paul Harvey in 1965: 'If I were the devil'; and liberals made it happen

In 1965, Paul Harvey did a broadcast titled, "If I Were the Devil." In this amazing broadcast, he spelled out what he would do if he were the devil and his goal was to bring down the United States of America. When you go back and listen to this broadcast, then consider what's happened in the 49 years since, it's astonishing. Here are a few examples:

A Presidents' Day reminder of why we must fight

It is coincidental that I was inspired to write a commentary about not giving up on Presidents Day, which remembers George Washington and Abraham Lincoln. If either of them had given up during the toughest times of their presidencies, then we would not be here today. And where we are, just to be clear, is standing as a free nation united, but losing our freedoms and becoming more divided every day.

New IRS rules look to destroy political speech . . . retroactively

The more we study the recent actions of the Internal Revenue Service, the more horrifying it becomes. The IRS is on a crusade to silence tax-exempt 501c(3) organizations that engage in political activism of just about any kind. And the latest twist is that the IRS is going to go back in time and penalize groups who do this before the proposed rules are even final.

Conservatives: Think twice before you jump on GOP for immigration action

I foresee a firestorm coming among conservatives in response to efforts by Capitol Hill Republicans to pass immigration reform. And while I share the concern of those who fear an amnesty sell-out for political purposes, I think we need to be smart about how we view this and not be too quick to condemn it.
