Dear Lord God –
We, Your people, who acknowledge Your name seek Your face, and ask forgiveness.
We, Your people, acknowledge we have sinned against You in thought, word, and deed.
November 1, 2012, is a day we set aside for a National Call to Prayer and Fasting for the Restoration of America. We have already defined the need for such a large coordinated prayer. We also know Abraham Lincoln proclaimed a Day of Prayer and Fasting during the great Civil War.
When Americans pray, we pray to the God who reigns in America. We believe He is the one true God. According to the Bible and the Nicene Creed, He is a Triune God: Jehovah, Jesus, and the Holy Ghost. And He is the God of the Hebrew Shema: “Hear O Israel, the Lord our God, the Lord is One.” That divine nature is a mystery to our minds.
There are those optimistic souls who believe the problems we face now we have faced in different costume before. We solved those problems and moved on. Our best years are still ahead of us, or not, but install our brand of political leadership and life is beautiful; maybe Renaissance beautiful, or not. Nothing matters, and what if it did?
It is widely reported that America is coming apart. We are in more than a culture war. We are in a seismic event. We are two Americas, and one makes no sense to the other.
The inability to make sense has been coming for a long time. Artists have been deconstructing art throughout the twentieth century – from the Armory Show, the Expressionism and Surrealism. Artists are the antenna of the race, and the unacknowledged legislators of the world. People follow artists. In 1921 W.B. Yeats wrote a poem called “The Second Coming.” It is his vision of worldwide insanity and the inability to make sense.
