Jerusalem International Film Festival

I was siting in the restaurant at the Cinemateque in Jerusalem, pondering some of the films I had recently seen at this year's Jerusalem International Film Festival, and was awed by the scenery around me.

Films Summer of 2008

Well, summer wackiness is well underway at your local movie theatre and the first batch of summer blockbusters has arrived. Some are already completing their run and there are lots more on the way. This is the time of year when every weekend seems to bring one, two or three new must see films, so let's give a quick look at what's already arrived and see how the summer is faring:

Long live Queen Sarah!

The 2008 Genie Awards gave out statuettes to the best in the Canadian film industry this year and the members of the Academy crowned a new Queen when they gave the bulk of the important awards to Sarah Polley and her film, Away From Her. There wasn’t a more deserving winner in Genie history than Sarah. She found the short story upon which the film was based (Alice Munroe’s The Bear Came Over The Mountain) ; she wrote the screenplay; she directed the film; and she has been promoting it since its premiere at the Toronto International Film Festival last September..

Top Ten Films of 2007

Another year has pretty well come and gone, and it is time to do a little reflection as to some of the better films I’ve seen the past twelve months and tell you about some of the films I’ve liked the most.

Queen Rock Montreal

Those of us fortunate enough to have attended the theatrical screening of Queen Rock Montreal enjoyed a once in a lifetime thrill. Not only did we did we get to experience the film on the big screen and with big sound, but we also got to view this fantastic concert with hundred of other Queen fans. Now this film is available on DVD and you can watch it in the comfort of your own home.
