Leading pro-life groups are prepared to fight hard to stop the radical abortion agenda Democrats will bring to Congress next year.
Democrats’ new control of both chambers of Congress has set the stage for renewed efforts to expand abortion and dismantle longstanding protections for unborn children, pro-life groups said Wednesday.
National Right to Life, Live Action, and Americans United for Life, among many other pro-life organziations, said they will work with pro-life lawmakers to defend existing protections, preserve restrictions on taxpayer funding of abortion, and expose the consequences of proposed legislation.
“The election results change the balance of power in Congress, but they do not change the value of a single human life,” said Carol Tobias, president of National Right to Life. “We will work with our pro-life allies to defend unborn children and their mothers and hold lawmakers accountable for the policies they pursue.” ---More...
John Thune: We Could Confirm Supreme Court Justice in Lame-Duck
With Republicans losing the Senate by a large margin and concern that they will not gain enough seats to retake the chamber in 2028 with potentially a new GOP president, there is considerable concern about replacing aging Supreme Court justices.
Some conservatives are suggesting that Justices Samuel Alito and Clarence Thomas consider resigning now in order to ensure Republicans could replace them with ironclad conservatives.
Should they pass away or retire during the next two years – and potentially the next six years with a Democrat president in 2028 – their seats could be lost for decades to far-left jurists.
Regarding the possibility of a lame duck confirmation, earlier this year Senate Majority Leader John Thune said Republicans stand ready to confirm a Supreme Court justice in the lame-duck session if a vacancy opens.
That would guarantee preserving a conservative majority that returned the power to protect unborn children to the states and ruled favorable on a host of other key conservative political issues. ---More...
Speaker Mike Johnson Will Step Down as Leader of House Republicans
House Speaker Mike Johnson will not seek to remain the leader of House Republicans in the next Congress after Democrats won control of the chamber. That’s what Johnson told staff on a Wednesday morning call, according to multiple reports.
The Louisiana Republican’s decision comes a day after midterm losses ended the GOP’s narrow majority. He has made no public announcement about his future plans. House Republicans are expected to elect a new minority leader next week, with Judiciary Committee Chairman Jim Jordan and Majority Leader Steve Scalise among those positioned to run among others.
Johnson rose from relative obscurity to the speakership in October 2023 after the ouster of Kevin McCarthy. During his tenure, he advanced measures that pro-life advocates credit with temporarily cutting off federal funding to Planned Parenthood, the nation’s largest abortion business.
In 2025, the One Big Beautiful Bill Act included a one-year prohibition on Medicaid reimbursements for Planned Parenthood. That provision expired on July 4, 2026. ---More...
Virginia Judge Will Hear Case in 9 Days to Overturn Abortions Up to Birth
The battle to stop abortions up to birth in Virginia is not over.
A Virginia judge will hear arguments in 9 days on a lawsuit seeking to block certification of a newly approved constitutional amendment that writes elective abortion through all nine months of pregnancy into the state Constitution.
Virginia voters approved Ballot Question 1 on Tuesday, which adds a so-called right to abortion to the Constitution, along with Ballot Question 2, which redefines marriage and introduces “gender” as a category distinct from sex. The Family Foundation said the fight now moves to the courtroom and the Capitol.
“We won’t sugarcoat what happened tonight. Writing elective abortion through all nine months into our constitution is a wound to the Commonwealth, and the Virginians who will bear it most are the ones who had no vote: unborn children, some of whom will be full term when they are aborted,” said Victoria Cobb, president of The Family Foundation.
“But this fight is not over. It moves today to the courtroom and the Capitol. Virginians were told Question 1 kept the status quo and Question 2 was simply about same-sex marriage. Neither was true, the drafters knew it, and we intend to hold them to account,” Cobb said in an email to LifeNews. ---More...
Ron DeSantis: Election Result is So Bad 2028 and SCOTUS are in Danger
Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis on Wednesday gave a sobering analysis of the midterm election results across America, saying it was “close to an extinction-level event for Republicans.”
“We just have to be very clear-eyed. This is probably the worst-case scenario for a midterm election,” the governor said at a news conference in Tallahassee.
“This is close to an extinction-level event for Republicans in many parts of the country as we have seen probably in the last hundred years.”
Desantis, a popular Republican in the Sunshine State, warned the impact of Tuesday night’s results are going to last “far beyond just two years.”
“You look ahead to the ’28 election, a presidential election, you are not as Republicans going to be able to retake the Senate under this current map just two years from now. And with all the House seats that have been done, probably not viable to take that back as well,” he explained. ---More...
