All those elite pundits who vociferously proclaimed that the price of oil had nothing to do with wheeler-dealers in the commodities market were proven wrong last year when Bush signed an executive order overturning the ban on offshore drilling. Within 3 days, the price of a barrel of oil dropped by $15. So much for the theory of supply and demand, huh?
Many people are old enough to remember those long gas lines in 1973, but here are a few things they may not know.
First: In 1972, the price for a barrel of oil was about $3.00. By the end of 1974, it had quadrupled to $12.00 a barrel.
Second: While it was convenient to blame this increase on the (1973) Yom Kippur War and subsequent embargoes, the real secret lies within the cold hearts of an elite group of wealthy, powerfully connected individuals.
Just before oil prices began that dramatic rise, a recommendation was made at a meeting of the Bilderberg Group, that the price of oil should be much higher than (then) current levels. Besides politicians, academics and financiers, it should be noted that all of the upper-level executives of ExxonMobil, Chevron, Shell and BP are card-carrying members of this exclusive club.
Third: In 1974, in a private discussion I had with a senior purchasing agent of Standard Oil of California, it was revealed that the so-called oil “crisis” was a farce. This man’s job was to estimate jet fuel requirements for the San Francisco Airport, over both the near- and long-term. He stated emphatically that no shortage was projected for the airlines, nor was Standard Oil intending to increase the price of jet fuel as far out, in his opinion, as the next 5 years. He further stated that it was nothing short of ridiculous to see cars lined up at the gas pump.
Fourth: Can you remember the good ol’ days of gas wars? While many gas stations are tempted to start a price war, they run the risk of having their supplier cease shipments immediately if they do so.
Wholesalers are literally committing price fixing while congress is looking the other way (as usual). Ask any private service station owner if he’s ever considered starting a gas war and see what you learn.
So, who are the culprits? Think Wall Street, the IMF, World Bank, WTO, UN, OPEC, the Bilderberg Group, the Trilateral Commission, Council on Foreign Relations and Congress. Each of these organizations is made up of the world’s rich and powerful. The only thing they are concerned about is their personal bank balance. Every single one of them is holding us hostage.
Think about this: Congress passed a law imposing a 15/85 percent mixture of ethanol to gasoline, to supposedly reduce our oil consumption. This absurd idea has done nothing except create sky-high food prices and sharply increased poverty. Ethanol is made from corn, which is the basic ingredient in 2,500 of the approximately 10,000 products on grocery store shelves.
In June 2008, Congress had a perfect opportunity to vote on drilling within the U.S. but, instead, they just had to rush home to their local districts to appear in July 4th celebrations. It was imperative that they remind their constituents of the great work they’ve been doing. HA!
Upon their return they met for a few sessions, only to go home again for the rest of their summer recess.
Between July 10th and November 4th (Election Day), this do-nothing congress met only 35 times. (In case you’re keeping track that will be 90 working days for everyone else.) And, a day’s work for them consists of a sweaty session of between 15 minutes and 6 hours. Worse, between Nov. 4th and Inauguration day, no workdays were scheduled. How’s that for putting The People first?
Does it look like any oil legislation will be passed in 2009? Don’t hold out hope, unless you have a lot of audacity. If we leave it to the Democrats, gas will be $8 per gallon as we wait for wind and solar power. The Republicans want to drill, but won’t stop the oil speculators from running up the price again.
Some food for thought: a) while ethanol is made from corn, methanol (alcohol) can be made from corn stalks, grass, roots, coal and natural gas. The day we get off ethanol, food prices will drop. All we need is for congress to pass a bill requiring that only flex-fuel vehicles be sold in the U.S. On the assembly line, it costs about $100 extra to convert the average car to flex-fuel, instead of the $5,000 extra for most of the gas-electric models now available.
Methanol would not only get us off our addiction to gasoline, it would make us energy independent within 3 years from the day this law takes effect. Is this a no-brainer or what?
Just look at what Brazil has done. This nation is now totally independent of imported oil. Why? Because their leaders saw the impending oil crisis a long time ago. Brazil chose – during that 1973 gas “shortage” – to intelligently look at alternative energy sources. Currently, all cars sold in Brazil are designed to run on flex-fuels such as sugar cane (which they grow in abundance).
It’s your choice, America. You can demand that Congress do something about this or you can keep griping about the cost of filling up your car. And if that’s not enough motivation, check your bank balance after you’ve bought 4 small bags of groceries for $150.
Lastly: Ask yourself this question, “what has my legislator done to improve my life or that of my kids?” Most likely, the only life that has seen any improvement over the past few years was that of your legislator.
Congress gave themselves a pay raise again last year while the purchasing power of your money decreased by the same amount.
