AURORA – During the afternoon, Saturday June 6, soldiers will be marching with heavy packs on Wellington Road, Aurora, eastbound from Yonge Street, continuing along Aurora Road to Highway 48, and northbound on Highway 48 to the Ganaraska Forest. Traffic should not be affected.
The march kicks off Roger’s Challenge, a gruelling army skills competition for some two hundred soldiers of the Queen’s York Rangers that will have them training around the town of Aurora until 12:00 p.m. Sunday.
In order to rehearse, soldiers will have rifles but the rifles will not have live ammunition.
The Queen’s York Rangers is an armoured reconnaissance unit of 32 Canadian Brigade Group, an Army Reserve formation of some 2200 part-time soldiers based in armouries from downtown Toronto to Barrie and Owen Sound. The brigade includes units of infantry, artillery, reconnaissance and engineers.
