Assault by TSA

imageLast week, at Reagan National Airport I was chosen in line to be screened by the naked scanner. I knew that this technology had been rushed to market and had not been properly tested for the amount of radiation exposure and its concentration in skin, which increases the risk of cancer. AIT (Advanced Imaging Technology) uses backscatter x-rays, which emit ionizing radiation. The cumulative effect is absorbed almost entirely by skin and underlying tissues. The dose is believed to be 20 times higher than estimated by the manufacturer. Repeated scanning may cause significant health risks particularly in people who are more susceptible/sensitive to radiation and are prone to DNA mutation.
A couple of burka-clad passengers were waved through from the line behind me; nobody touched them or x-rayed them. Here I was, waiting to be sexually touched and violated in front of dozens of people. I did not want to go to a private room, I was afraid for my safety. I did not wear loose clothing, just Capri pants and a fitted shirt. There was obviously nothing that I was hiding beneath my clothes. As I clearly recall, most of the recent terrorist acts and failed attempts involving aviation were committed by Muslims or converts to Islam, not middle-aged women in modern clothes. My religion celebrates life in all forms and does not wish death on humanity. The TSA agent repeatedly touched my crotch, my buttocks, my breast, and pretty much every inch of my body for 15 minutes. Why must they touch my body in every way? Why are children and toddlers in diapers groped inappropriately? How is that making everybody else safer to fly?
We teach our children not to talk to strangers, much less allow strangers to touch them in such invasive, pedophilic ways. By the time my TSA tormentor finished, I was in tears, I never felt more utterly violated except under communism. I felt stripped of my dignity, my being, my soul. This is what slaves must have felt like when they were sold, felt and prodded like cattle. Pat-downs are intimidating and humiliating on purpose in order to stop you from opting out of the scanners. The ProVision scanners, which use high frequency radio waves, are a very lucrative business, made by L-3 Communications in St. Petersburg, Florida. Rapiscan scanners are made with back scatter radiation and are equally profitable, selling briskly. How can TSA employees do this to other Americans under the excuse that it must be done for our safety while pretending that they have done an honest day’s work? I for one did not feel safer at all. Where is the conscience and shame of right and wrong? What gives them the right to search and violate a total stranger just because we purchased a ticket to fly? TSA, the agency of the U.S. Department of Homeland Security since 2003, was created as part of the Aviation and Transportation Security Act, passed by 107th U.S. Congress and signed into law by President George W. Bush on November 19, 2001. At the time, after the events of 9/11, it seemed like a great idea to protect the traveling public from the possibility of hijacking and to provide airport security. Nobody envisioned that it would become another venue of stripping American citizens of their dignity and their freedom. TSA oversees the protection of airports, highways, railroads, buses, mass transit systems, pipelines, and ports. The bulk of their “work” is screening passengers, checked and carry-on baggage at 450 U.S. airports. TSA has developed a $1 billion program since 2006, “Screening Passengers by Observation Techniques,” with the intent to detect dangerous passengers by watching non-verbal communication, body posture, facial expressions, sweating, blinking, and eye contact. A test run was done last Tuesday at Boston’s Logan airport. “Micro-expressions” of displeasure at our tormentors, who use dirty gloved hands to rifle through our suitcases, soiling our clean clothes, can be used against us with little recourse. The public outcry of the TSA groping and sexual assault at airports, convinced conservatives that we should try the Israeli model of prying and probing passengers by asking rather personal questions that can turn into a veritable interrogation. The SPOT program asks questions such as, “where have you been,” “do you have a business card,” “where are you traveling,” while looking at facial expressions, grimaces, and lack of eye contact. Suspicious individuals will be pulled aside for more detailed questioning, pat-downs, and full body scans with ProVision, the naked scanners. What happened to our free country? Why are we allowing ourselves to be treated like cattle in order to bring us into quicker submission to a totalitarian society? What happened to the American spirit of freedom, independence, and innocent until proven guilty? Why must we submit our dignity to TSA? Why are we allowing Muslims terrorists and other minorities dictate how we live in the name of political correctness? Are these invasive sexual pat-downs pre-cursors to worse treatment of Americans who do not walk, talk, and act the way political elites dictate? I am personally disheartened that America I know and love has fallen so low that we allow an amoral minority to rule 300 million people. I do not like what is happening. My dad would have died in vain at the hands of communists if I do not protest this “fundamental transformative” degradation of our society. There should be a huge outcry. We are not sheep to be herded by elected politicians or un-elected bureaucrats who take their marching orders not from “we the people” but from the few with enough money to manipulate the fate of our country and the bleak future of our citizenry. Do we feel safer when we submit to such invasive pat-downs? When was the last time TSA has caught any terrorist? Why is it necessary to confiscate every ounce of liquids and gels we carry? Richard Reed tried to light his tennis shoes on fire in a failed attempt to bomb a plane, another tried to blow up the diaper he was wearing, causing himself severe burns and distress to the entire flight. Passengers stopped those two terrorists, not TSA. Some TSA agents have gone to jail for stealing passengers’ confiscated belongings. It seems that every time there is a crisis, instead of going after the real culprits, the terrorists, we are actually creating huge new bureaucracies with the sole purpose of mistreating and abusing innocent Americans under the guise of protecting and safeguarding air travel.
