I just love it when some public official says that the American people don't understand the Syrian situation, nor any other for that matter. I can feel my blood pressure rise at the audacity of talking down to us.

Here's the truth. We do understand. We get all the nuances, pitfalls, foreign relations tight ropes. What we also "get", which we are not given credit for are the following:
  1. We cannot and should not police the world or impose our beliefs on those who reject them.
  2. We cannot nor should not go it alone. If the UN doesn't support actions then we have no back up, no leg to stand on.
  3. We cannot and should not do anything to involve the American military - on any level-without clearly defined goals, a plan of action that is approved by military leaders and an exit strategy.
  4. We understand that the President drew a red line, said he drew a red line, then denied he said it and after that denied that he drew it. All of this is on tape.
