Bonhams Specialst on hunt for Scottish Art Treasures in Toronto

The head of pictures at Bonhams in Scotland, Chris Brickley, is visiting Toronto on 8 and 9 July looking for Scottish art to offer in Edinburgh auctions. Bonhams is the leading auction house for Scottish art in Scotland.

On his last visits to Toronto in 2012 and 2013 Chris found works by all the leading Scottish artists including Guthrie, Melville, Henry, the Scottish Colourists - Cadell, JD Fergusson, Peploe - and other important works by Eardley, Redpath, Gillies, Bellany and Watt. Three pictures - Francis Campbell Boileau Cadell’s Cassis, the White Villa from the Balcony and Samuel John Peploe’s Still life with Crock and Street in Cassis - went on to sell in Edinburgh for over $250,000 CAD each Chris Brickley said, “The links between Canada and Scotland are, of course, very strong and many families possess Scottish paintings. Demand for Scottish art is very high and I’m looking forward to seeing what people in Toronto have to offer.”
