Canada Promises to Back Georgia to Enter NATO

Georgia, Tbilisi, 1 September /Trend News corr. N.Kirtskhalia/ Canada will actively support Tbilisi to enable Georgia to enter NATO, Speaker of the Georgian Parliament Davit Bakradze said to journalists after his meeting with Canadian Foreign Minister Elena Giurgis.
According to Bakradze, the situation in Georgia, Moscow’s aggressive actions and Georgia’s entering NATO was discussed at the meeting. According to Bakradze, the economic sanctions to be used by the international community to suspend Kremlin’s activities were also discussed. In the early morning of 8 August, large-scale military actions commenced in the unrecognized republic of South Ossetia. Georgian troops entered Tskhinvali. Later Russian troops occupied Tskhinvali and forced back the Georgian servicemen. On 12 August, Russian President Dmitriy Medvedev said he had decided to complete the operation on constraining Georgia to peace.
