REPORTER: "Was there a moment you knew you had him?"

Deputy Director Dan Bongino just grinned and told the room: "Yeah, I remember the exact moment.

ADIC Darren Cox called me and said, 'Are you sitting down?' I said, 'Oh boy, is this bad?' He said, 'No... I think we got him.'"

Bongino confirmed it was forensic evidence that broke the case wide open. Same evidence that sat untouched for over four years.

He wouldn't give the exact date or detail yet because "we're still in the prologue of a very long book."

Interviews ongoing, search warrants still being processed.

Translation: They're not done. This arrest is just the opening chapter. The pipe bomber never saw it coming.

Neither did the people who buried the case for 1,795 days.

Game changed.
