Ver, who was charged with tax evasion, says he is being charged because of political reasons and is seeking to have his charges dismissed.

The Bitcoin investor renounced his U.S. citizenship in 2014 in response to legal pressure from the Obama administration.

He was then charged in 2024 by the Biden DOJ for failing to report taxes after selling $240 million worth of Bitcoin in 2017, even though he was not a U.S. citizen.

Ver claims the Biden DOJ targeted him as part of their "war on crypto."

"As a former federal prosecutor, it is truly alarming to see that the criminal arm of the IRS can torment a former citizen, who actually paid millions in taxes based on a draconian "exit tax" and scrupulously followed the advice of his tax professionals," said Ver's legal team.
