It is said that the United States will become energy independent soon. If that is the case, let's bring our troops home and let's stop subsidizing Brazilian oil production. If we truly have the capability of being free from the bonds of other oil producers, what is stopping us? Harvesting our own resources would provide jobs, enhance domestic businesses and save military dollars and lives.
The fact that we are not doing that right now means one of two things, either it is a pipe dream or we don't want to do it. So, which is it? If it is a fact that we don't need other countries to fulfill our energy demands then we must be continuing our present practices for the benefit of others. If it is not true then who benefits from the headlines?
Either way, Americans are being sold a bill of goods to keep them content with the status quo. Don't believe it. We should demand our troops be brought home to protect our own borders and that we function with our own resources.
