I attended the council meeting in Port Elgin on Monday Nov.12, 2012, and once again our leader and his followers were at their finest. With questions like, and I am paraphrasing, “Just what is a tree?”, “How fast will we get the money?” and “When is the latest we can say, NO”. In all fairness, you had to be there.
SOS (Save our Saugeen Shores) was there also and pointed out inconsistency with NWNO’s information given to the public, some of which were later attempted haphazardly to be smoothed over by NWMO’s spokeswoman. There appears to already be many problems of truthfulness and transparency from the nuclear dump people but I suppose it could be explained away as growing pains, yah, right!
The council appeared captivated by the spokeswomen for the NWMO while she spun her tale of what were the visions for the future of our community if council chose to move forward in the next step in maybe becoming the community to have what might be Canada’s biggest and surely to become “World Famous Toxic Nuclear Waste Dump Attraction”. Now, who would want to see this and maybe even take home a sample?
It appears that council is allowing Port Elgin to seriously compete to become the Capital of Canada, as the King or Queen of the “Nuclear Toxic Waste Dump”.
You can fancy up all the words to try and make something that is really bad sound better. You can try and find out all the information about a nuclear toxic waste product you want but at the end of the day, a nuclear dump site is still a vile, dangerous place with a deadly and toxic product that kills all life at any time. Is this what we want for the future of Port Elgin or any other community in Ontario?
