Forcing An Unconditional Surrender On Iran

World War II ended with eventual unconditional surrender by all three axis powers. For this discussion the most important of those was the unconditional surrender of Japan. The Japanese war like culture of the 1930s and 1940s was very much like the convert or die culture of modern-day radical Islam. The self-proclaimed racial superiority of the pre–WWII Japanese warlords is much like the self-proclaimed religious superiority of the radical Islamists of today.

The demand by the allies of WWII for unconditional surrender had one very important element; it humbled the Japanese and demonstrated that their view of themselves wasn’t what the world saw. Thanks to a benevolent America and the brilliant leadership of Douglas MacArthur, Japan adjusted their culture to adopt a more western approach international behavior. This in turn converted a one-time vicious enemy into one of America’s staunchest allies. Most amazingly, this was done without undermining the basic culture of Japan. Japan was able to make this transition by protecting its sovereign borders, thus preventing diluting its cultural heritage.

For the last 1,300 years, western civilization has been fighting Islamists wishing to convert the world to Islam. However, current piecemeal defeats of Islam is a proven failed strategy. It is time to try something different, and the Iran situation is a perfect opportunity to demonstrate to Islamists all over the world that there is a better way.

However, the first step is to abandon the traditional western negotiation strategy with a culture that has a proven record of not honoring any western form of agreement. For what I am proposing to work, we must force the current Iranian regime into an unconditional surrender. We  must target their critical infrastructure including power stations, bridges, and even their oil industry, we need to do what is necessary. We need to make Iran as dark at night.

Then once the theocratic government of Iran capitulates, America and the world can bestow the same kind of benevolence on Iran as we did for Japan after WWII. It will be tough on the civilian population of Iran for a while. However, that population is ready, willing, and able to move forward in rebuilding Iran into a bigger and better place than it has ever been before. Iran is better off than Japan ever was because Iran has oil to help fund the rebuilding effort. Japan had no such income producing capability and look how that turned out.

Essentially, President Trump proposed such a plan for re-birthing Gaza, and that same concept would stand a very good chance in Iran. These two locations could demonstrate to world-wide Islam that cooperation with western civilization is a better path than jihad. 

Like it or not, anything less than unconditional surrender in Iran is simply kicking the can down the road. In my humble opinion, the Japanese model could very well work in Iran and Gaza.

After a 55 year career as a professional pilot in the military, in law enforcement, in the private sector, and in federal civil service, I am now retired.
