Across the country media outlets have picked up the Trayvon Martin story. Without the benefit of a police investigation and report, black leaders all the way up the the President have sided with Martin. Even to the point of offering a bounty on George Zimmerman's head and attempting to publicize his address. In doing so, innocent people were put at risk.
What makes this story so intriguing to the media? Why is it on televisions and in newspapers, when daily, similar scenarios are played out in obscurity? CBS news reported 12,000 students walked out of school in Miami and 8,000 gathered in Philadelphia for a vigil.
I don't know if George Zimmerman is guilty or innocent. Neither do all those people rushing to Trayvone's defense. And that is a huge problem. In bypassing the justice system, someone is being denied the right to be considered "innocent until proven guilty".
This case should concern us all. Yes, because a young man died but also because our rights are dying with him. What is happening in this case is leading to vigilante justice like the days of the old west. I don't think any rational person wants that.
