Last week I was up late, blogging my thoughts while President Obama was peddling his Chicago pitch to the IOC in Copenhagen for the 2016 Summer Olympics. Because I have friends from both sides of the aisle on Facebook, I was getting my fair share of abuse and criticism, to the tune of, “Shame on you for not supporting America, Kelly! How can you call yourself a Patriot?”
I love my country. I am a Jeffersonian conservative and can recite TJ’s immortal words by heart, especially the part, “… if ever any form of government shall become destructive of these ends (life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness), it is the right of the people to alter or abolish it, and to institute new government.”
My friends’ accusations stung, but on the order of a pesky mosquito bite, not a lethal knife wound. I stood firm in my resolve and explained.
“Honestly, I hate to say it, but I hope the U.S. doesn’t get the Olympics," I bluntly proclaimed. "I hope the IOC resists our President’s terribly inappropriate strong-arm effort. Imagine, if Chicago gets it, then EVERY head of state and uber-wealthy media personality will think THEY have to go promote their countrys’ future bids to the Olympic committee! What a GLOBAL WASTE OF MONEY (in addition to adding greenhouse gases and contributing to the destruction of our Planet Earth!) It would be an awful precedent for the IOC to set for future Olympic pitches.”
I told my friends, “This is what I hope will happen. I hope the IOC will feel flattered, I hope they fawn over the 3 O's (Obama, Obama and Oprah, oh my!), and get their autographs, smile fake smiles and make everyone believe that Chicago is a shoe-in for the Olympics. And then, I hope the IOC gives it to Rio… boo-yah!” (My ESP amazes even me and is only eclipsed by my ESPN, all 23 channels of it!)
“What I find most offensive is that Obama’s bully-rag trip to Denmark is just a ruse to use the people of Chicago, Illinois and our nation for personal political gain, namely, HIS. The President’s popularity and approval numbers are precipitously low, we the people aren’t buying his health care sham, he doesn’t have the cajones to make a decision to send more troops to Afghanistan, and so he flew off to Denmark to use his “power of persuasion” (excuse me while I gag) to bring home a “win” to his Chicago Mafia cronies. The President has a lot of personal markers to pay off. From the looks of it, his Chicagoland bosses called them in.”
When the MSM announced that Chicago had received the fewest number of votes and was the first city eliminated in the finals, I leaped out of my chair and began my happy dance around the desk. (Visualize me, Lucy, and the Peanuts gang dancing their head-bob dance around Linus’ piano in “A Charlie Brown Christmas,” humming jazz pianist Vince Guaraldi’s “Linus and Lucy” song. I was 10 again, instead of five times that age!) Oh happy day, our egotistical, narcissistic President’s arrogance and pomposity had justly and finally received international scorn and ridicule, woo-who! The audacity of Obama’s cult of personality had finally been squashed like a stinkbug. The corrupt, disingenuous, “You Lie!” bad guy had been mowed down in an international gunfire of words, with the world and EVERY media outlet watching, taping and WRITING!
I am not without feelings. It must be tough to lose in such a public, global arena. I feel for Mrs. Barack Hussein Obama, our First Lady, poor Michelle, because I DO understand just how it feels to be ashamed of your country. I have been ashamed of my country too, for many months now, every time her husband opens his mouth and tells other countries how despicable America is. So, forgive me if I gloat a bit. Obama’s words came back to bite him, and actually, so did Michelle’s, now that I think about it. In light of the IOC’S diss and Obama’s clear failure at bringing home the gold, I stand up and say, “I have never been more proud of my country than I am today!”
Way to go IOC, now please excuse me while I continue my happy dance! Vince, won’t you play it again, for all of us, just one more time?
