Now, you mean right now?

I recall the first time I went to court over some traffic ticket, Berkeley in the 60’s. There were a number of cases ahead of mine and some of the folks were unprepared for the consequences of their actions or lack of action. They would come before the judge and get sentenced, 30 days in jail or things like that. The bailiffs would then be instructed to take them to jail, now. It was always the same, “Judge you mean now, right now? ”. “I’m not ready to go to jail I have not prepared,I have things to do, you don’t understand, this is not possible”. I didn’t know they were Democrats at the time, but now I see they were and learned nothing. Actions, consequences.
