Obama Rewards Oprah for Spreading the Lies of the Genesis Serpent

This fall, Obama will present Oprah Winfrey with the Presidential Medal of Freedom, honoring her as “one of the world’s most successful broadcast journalists.”

What does it mean to the queen of popular culture to be a successful broadcast journalist? What is the special message she wishes to report, as a “journalist,” to the people of the world? She answered these questions in the May, 2008 issue of O, The Oprah Magazine:

Claiming my own spiritual depths and encouraging others to recognize the fullness of their potential through spiritual connection is my greatest purpose and calling. It’s why I've continued to do the show these many years. It’s why I recently decided to start my OWN television network—the Oprah Winfrey Network—devoted to that purpose. It’s why I chose A New Earth, by Eckhart Tolle, as a book club selection, and why I interview him this month. I’ve read hundreds of books that have helped me become more spiritually attuned. A New Earth resonated so deeply with me and caused such a shift in the way I perceived myself and all things, I couldn’t not share it.

It’s been the most rewarding experience of my career to teach this book online with Eckhart Tolle and witness millions of people all over the globe awaken to their lives in such profound ways. Oprah’s “journalistic” message to the world is the message of Eckhart Tolle. Through her television show and her Web site, Oprah made bestsellers of Tolle’s books, The Power of Now (TPN) and A New Earth (ANE). What does Tolle teach? According to him, the Sacred Scriptures are no longer sacred, having lost their essence, power, and inspiration. Tolle’s words, not Christ’s or Paul’s, “contain a great deal of spiritual power;” Tolle’s books, not the Scriptures, are “spiritually alive” (TPN, p. 8, ANE, p. 7). Tolle scoffs at the central tenet of Christianity, Christ’s bodily resurrection from the dead, calling it one of many “myths” (TPN, p. 115). The core of Tolle’s teaching matches exactly the lies of the Genesis serpent. Oprah accepts Tolle’s doctrine in toto and has promoted it globally with a fervor unmatched in her other pursuits, so we may call their belief system the Serpent/Tolle/Oprah doctrine. In New Age lingo, Tolle and Oprah channel the “enlightenment” of the Genesis serpent, making a mockery of Christ, God, and all of Scripture. That Oprah believes and promotes the serpent’s lies worldwide is a serious charge. Step-by-step verification is therefore essential. We will go through the serpent’s seduction of Eve in Genesis 3:1-6, verse by verse and compare it to Tolle’s seduction of the enthusiastic Winfrey.

VERSE 1 Now the serpent was more crafty than any of the wild animals the Lord God had made. He said to the woman, “Did God really say, ‘You must not eat from any tree in the garden’?”

THE SERPENT begins by misrepresenting the word of God, for God did not forbid Adam and Eve from eating of “any tree in the garden,” but from only one. TOLLE misrepresents the word of God throughout his books, in one case writing that the God of the Old Testament, the God of Genesis, is not real but rather “a projection of the human mind” (TPN p. 165). Oprah agrees. THE SERPENT places the seeds of doubt into Eve’s mind as to whether she can believe what God has said. TOLLE develops the serpent’s insinuation to its logical end, boldly declaring outright that God Himself should be ignored in favor of the self: “The word God is limiting not only because of thousands of years of misperception and misuse, but also because it implies an entity other than you” (TPN, p. 224). Oprah agrees.

VERSES 2-3 The woman said to the serpent, “We may eat fruit from the trees in the garden, but God did say, ‘You must not eat fruit from the tree that is in the middle of the garden, and you must not touch it, or you will die.’”

God never told Eve she could not touch the tree. She begins a long-standing and troublesome tradition of adding mankind’s thinking to the word of God. Eve’s main concern is that the dying process will begin, as God had said it would, if she eats the fruit of the forbidden tree.

VERSES 4-5 “You will not certainly die,” the serpent said to the woman. “For God knows that when you eat from it your eyes will be opened, and you will be like God, knowing good and evil.”

THE SERPENT lies to Eve, telling her that she will not be dying if she eats the fruit. TOLLE tells the same lie in slightly different words: “Through the inner body, you are inseparably connected to this unmanifested One Life—birthless, deathless, eternally present” (TPN, p. 116), and “[Y]ou are indestructible, immortal. This is not a belief. It is absolute certainty that needs no external evidence or proof from some secondary source” (TPN, p. 220). Oprah agrees. THE SERPENT lies again, telling Eve she will be like God. TOLLE tells the same lie. At the burning bush, Yahweh expressed His identity to Moses as “I Am That I Am.” Tolle says of himself “I Am that I Am,” and tells his followers that they may say the same of themselves as well (ANE, p. 79). Tolle writes that he has discovered his own true nature as “the ever-present I am” (TPN, p. 5, Tolle’s italics). Oprah agrees. THE SERPENT tells Eve she will know good and evil, the implication being that she will be able to decide for herself, based on her own reasoning, what is right and what is wrong, and consequently what is true and what is false. TOLLE, inspired by the serpent, has already decided for his disciples what is good and what is evil: “There is only one perpetrator of evil on the planet: human unconsciousness” (ANE, p. 160). All who reject the Serpent/Tolle/Oprah doctrine live in the state of “unconsciousness,” and therefore perpetuate evil. Oprah agrees. Tolle rules out the word of God as the source of truth, telling his followers, as the serpent told Eve, to look to themselves for it: “Yes, you are the Truth. If you look for it elsewhere, you will be deceived every time” (Tolle’s emphasis, ANE, p. 71). Oprah agrees.

VERSE 6 When the woman saw that the fruit of the tree was good for food and pleasing to the eye, and also desirable for gaining wisdom, she took some and ate it. She also gave some to her husband, who was with her, and he ate it.

THE SERPENT has convinced Eve to abandon her belief in God, and to rely instead upon her own reasonings and her feelings about the fruit offered by the serpent. TOLLE urges his followers to abandon all belief in God, in favor of their feelings: “Who you are requires no belief. In fact, every belief is an obstacle” (ANE, p. 189, Tolle’s emphasis). Oprah agrees. In a television conversation with Tolle, Oprah says, “God is a feeling experience, not a believing experience. If God for you is still about a belief, then it’s not truly God.” THE SERPENT’S systematic deceptions lead Eve to think that accepting them as truth will make her a partaker of great wisdom. Reasoning from the evidence of her senses and her feelings, she will forget about God and welcome “enlightenment,” the coveted intelligence that the serpent’s fruit will allegedly provide. TOLLE’S systematic deceptions lead his followers to think that accepting them as truth will make them divine partakers of what Tolle calls “universal intelligence” (ANE, p. 289). That clinches it for Oprah. Her soul yearns for that “universal intelligence.” She will forget about God and Christ. She will begin to righteously promote Tolle’s warmed-over serpent-inspired teaching as an enlightened, life-changing message. Through her special brand of “journalism,” Oprah becomes determined to promote what amounts to nothing more than the lies of the “ancient serpent called Adversary and Satan who is deceiving the whole inhabited earth” (Revelation 12:9). Winfrey’s Medal of Freedom may be the ultimate in farcical awards. Both the presenter of the award, Obama, and the recipient, Oprah, live in an inverted universe where lies are called truth and evil is called good, where our Creator is ignored and the serpent’s lies are exalted. Two deluded narcissists stare admiringly at their backwards, two-dimensional images in the reflecting pool of their vanity, and imagine they are making the world a better place. In reality, all they are doing, per the serpent’s urging, is idolizing themselves. Both Oprah and Obama still claim to be Christians. They are tools of the Adversary of God and Christ, ministers of the serpent’s “righteousness,” ravenous wolves in sheep’s clothing.
