While Libya burns and Americans are frantically trying to get out, our president will be partying tonight to Motown music… just not authentic Motown music.
Tonight’s East Room event is titled, “The Motown Sound: In Performance at the White House – a Thank You from the Obamas to Their Supporters.” Let’s start by wondering what white teen idol Nick Jonas is doing on the line up. And what exactly is Sheryl Crow doing on tonight’s bill? Her music is somewhat bluesy, but Motown it ain’t. John Legend, by the way, will also be appearing tonight. As will Natasha Bedingfield, the white British chart topper who also has little obvious connection to Motown, though she’s a big Obama supporter.
I was watching some video on The Funk Brothers (which I'll share once NMATV is back up and running) and Motown is more than a political event, but as usual, it's become something trivialized and politicized by Barack Obama.
