(Nepean, Ontario)- Ontario PC Energy Critic Lisa MacLeod offered the following statement on Hydro One CEO Carmine Marcello:
“Earlier today I spoke by phone with Hydro One CEO Carmine Marcello to discuss erratic billing issues dating as far back as 2010.
“Mr. Marcello apologized that Ontarians were not “getting the service they deserved” and indicated that he would be personally involved in fixing the “irritant”.
“I am disappointed that Mr. Marcello characterizes massive billing irregularities as an “irritant”, given the importance of electricity to Ontarians and the fact this has cost some of his customers tens of thousands of dollars. I am equally disappointed that Mr. Marcello did not act on Opposition demands to fix the incompetent billing scheme at Hydro One and waited until the Ombudsman’s recent revelations to contact MPPs and show a willingness to address systemic problems at Hydro One.
“As an employee of Hydro One for more than 25 years and now CEO for over a year, Mr. Marcello has had plenty of time to fix the problems at Hydro One in the interests of its customers. During Mr. Marcello’s tenure, billing problems have worsened, causing many Hydro One customers to lose faith and confidence in his ability to turn this mess around. For that reason, during our meeting, I requested Mr. Marcello resign as CEO of Hydro One.
“If Mr. Marcello fails to do the right thing, I will continue to call on the Minister of Energy to replace him as CEO so customers can have restored faith in Hydro One’s leadership. Ontarians deserve better service from Hydro One and the Ontario PC Caucus will continue to pursue that on their behalf.”
