In 1982 Prime Minister Trudeau, the father of political arrogance, gave “the finger” at three protesters in Salmon Arm, British Columbia. It was Mr. Trudeau’s way of saying you don’t matter (expletives not included) I know what's best for you. The arrogance of our politicians has carried on virtually uninterrupted since them.
Now in the absence of decent Christmas season entertainment in 2008 we have three politicians, who want to give the electoral process the heave-ho and give Canadian voters the collective finger by telling them, “you don’t matter, we do.” “You are stupid, you voted wrong. “ “Now we have to fix the mess that you Canadian voters made. “
The supposed cause of this was Mr. Harper’s plan to cut public funding for the political parties in Canada. Make no mistake; Mr. Harper was right in wanting to cut public funding for the political parties in Canada. Political parties should not get a handout. They should win the support of the people by presenting their ideas in the public square in honest debate. However this was not the great issue of our day and he should have waited until he had the full confidence of the Canadian people before he killed off the cash cow. The Conservatives have at least removed this issue off the table. However, that is not the real issue.
The real issue is that of elitism. Three men have brought political upheaval to the nation, created financial instability, made a mockery of Canada’s electoral system and turned parliament into a cross between a soap opera and a circus. The leader of the pack is Stephan Dion who was soundly rejected by the Canadian voters in the election we just had (does he remember it) and deemed unqualified to lead by his own party. His co-star Jack Layton, will never be prime minister, but as a socialist he is in need of a power jolt. Then we have Gilles Duceppe. Mr. Duceppe doesn’t want to be prime minister of Canada but certainly wouldn’t mind being president for life in Quebec. That, of course will only happen once he has done his part to break up Canada.
This is arrogance at its apex. The three wise men telling Canada. You voted wrong but thankfully we are smarter than you and we will fix up the mess you voters made. That is always the problem with elitists. Elitists don’t win elections, they just look for ways to take over.
Oh by the way they elitists do math different from the rest of the nation as well. Ordinary Canadians see three men at the table smiling for the camera and patting each other on the back. Elitists see only two.. Apparantly ordinary Canadians are not clever enough to see things in an enlightened way. Perhaps if we faced Ottawa and repeated “only two, only two, and “coup is good, coup is good.” we would see things they way they do but enough of this foolishness. There would be no photo opportunities and no occasions to act like dimwits in the house of Commons without the support of Mr. Duceppe. If Mr. Duceppe didn’t sign on the deal would be dead. This new perfect party is socialistic and separatist. That doesn’t seem very wise to me.
Canadians deserve better than what has been offered up these past few days. They should let their MP’s know that we have an “elected government” and we want them to govern. We are in the throes of an economic crisis. Up to this point we have fared very well. We have low unemployment, single digit a recession and we did not have the banking meltdown that the United States had. We have our problems and we will need a government that is wise to navigate the waters of uncertainty. One thing for sure a ship with three captain wannabes will sink for sure.
Bottom line Canadians deserve better than a Salmon Arm salute.
There will be another election sooner than later and when there is Canadians should demand honesty and humility. We are not seeing much in Ottawa. We should tell them so today and most definitely in the next election. PS for Mr. Dion and Mr. Layton. The well-dressed charming separatist that doesn’t like Steven Harper probably doesn’t like you guys either.
