Washington, D.C. – Liberty Counsel Action is currently educating legislators on Capitol Hill regarding the need for including 10 specific pro-life provisions in the fiscal year 2020 budget. These provisions include the following:
  1. Hyde Amendment (prevents tax dollars from paying for abortions outside of Medicaid)
  2. Weldon Amendment (protects religious healthcare providers from state discrimination)
  3. Conscience Protection Act (protects religious medical staff from being forced to conduct abortion procedures)
  4. Coats-Snowe (protects medical students from being forced to learn how to perform abortions)
  5. Embryonic Stem Cell Research Ban
  6. NIH Human-Animal Chimera Funding Ban
  7. Stop funding for research using aborted fetal tissue
  8. State Planned Parenthood Funding Opt Out
  9. No funding for Planned Parenthood
  10. Faith-based Adoption Agency Conscience Protections
Since Republicans introduced the Born Alive Abortion Survivors Protection Act, there has been a surge in pro-life sentiment among both Democrat and Republican voters. In just one month, the number of people who identify as pro-life increased 17 percentage points between January and February of 2019. Previously, the numbers from this same Marist poll had seen little to no change over the past 10 years.
  • Democrats under age 45 who identify as pro-life increased from 20 percent to 34 percent.
  • Just 28 percent of Americans under 45 years old identified as pro-life in January, but that number increased to 47 percent the next month.
  • Americans under age 45 in favor of abortion decreased from 65 percent to 48 percent in the same timeframe.
"Protecting a living newborn infant is not about being pro-life. It is about being compassionate toward a human," said Mat Staver, Chairman of Liberty Counsel Action, "Already we are seeing the powerful and dangerous consequences of these 44 U.S. Senators who voted against the Born-Alive Abortion Survivors Protection Act, thus leaving infants to die. When will our nation come to its senses?" said Staver. Liberty Counsel Action created a video discussing the actions of forty-four U.S. Democrat Senators who voted on February 25, 2019 against a bill to protect newborn infants. Bill S.311 would have provided equal medical care for newborns even if their mothers did not want them. Since that bill failed, the Illinois legislature has been considering a bill that will legalize infanticide. Known as the Reproductive Health Act, HB 2495 defines and allows “abortion” as the use of anything “with an intention other than ... to preserve the life or health of the child after live birth.” Below is a complete list of the U.S. Senators who blocked these protections nationally:
