What has been found, over the past few days, is Canadians are quite a bit more patriotic than once thought, but it’s kind of like someone teasing the kid brother and their older sibling sticking up for them. In other words, we can pick on our own but no one else can.
What else was found out was:
You might ask how these two things are joined together?
Last night, when watching the news, a reporter interviewed a middle-aged gentleman, at the grocery store. He was asked if he would stop buying U.S. Anyone paying attention could see the defeat in his eyes and in his voice when he said “Only if I can afford it.” Many Canadians don’t understand that there are thousands, if not hundreds of thousands, of Canadians right on the financial edge and if Canada puts on retaliatory tariffs, it’s Canadians who have to pay. That includes food and other essentials.
Quite a number of Canadians are already defeated because of this government’s actions over the past years. That “green economy” that we were supposed to be transitioning to has failed Canadians in more ways than one, just like it did in Ontario under that provincial Liberal/NDP government, of the day. It has bankrupted this Nation and it will only continue to continue to bankrupt, not only this Nation, but the people who live here.
Then we have the pious politicians shouting “dollar for dollar tariffs.” What the heck are they thinking?
Time and time again economists have said we will not win this war.
But, again, last night, I watched as that elitist Minister of Public Safety (another McGuinty) had the audacity to even hint that this government had been working on this tariff issue and the cause of the tariffs, for weeks. Then to hear other politicians crowing that taking their stand on booze and retaliatory tariffs cause Trump to pause. What a bunch of hooey!
Face it – Trudeau had to cave. And thank goodness for that, or we would have even more homelessness; more Canadians starving or going to the food-banks; more Canadians forfeiting on their mortgages; and even greater harm to our economy. The ineptness of this government could be considered the cause for all of this.
Decriminalization of fentanyl:
“Mr. Speaker, what is not responsible is allowing 80% of the chemicals used in fentanyl manufacturing to come in unregulated and legally. What is not responsible is decriminalizing crack, heroin and fentanyl, and then, after seeing that it leads to a massive increase in deaths, two weeks ago, he, the Bloc and the NDP all voted in favour of a committee report to decriminalize fentanyl right across the country.
At a time when Canadians are dying and our border could be closed, will the Prime Minister confirm that he has reversed himself and now opposes decriminalization of fentanyl?” (House Of Commons, Dec. 4, 2024)
Most certainly this isn’t just about fentanyl but we need to look at what is really being said.
Back to those pious politicians and their tariffs. They can afford to pay another 10 to 25% more for goods from the U.S. So, can quite a few other Canadians but will this turn into the ‘burning on the stake” of those who can’t? What did we see during the pandemic, with so many out there accusing people who did not get vaccinated that they were placing other Canadians in jeopardy and/or killing their fellow Canadians. Then it finally came out vaccinated or not it didn’t stop the spread. Will it be the same with the tariffs and the “buy Canadian”? And what of those Canadians who are only trying to get by? Are other Canadians going to be on the attack on their fellow Canadians who can’t afford these retaliatory tariffs?
It isn’t being less patriotic to say no to the retaliatory tariffs. If the U.S. wants to put on their tariffs, it’s only Americans who suffer with the added costs – but harming your own citizens through retaliation does nothing for this country.
As expressed before there are ways and means if you want to retaliate, including putting up signage “Made in the U.S.A.,” allowing Canadians to make their own choices. But then that should also include “Made in China” because that is really what this is all about – too many people buying from China, not supporting North American made, including supporting China, Iran, NK, Russia criminal aspects, lurking in Canada, politically influencing/funding certain members of our government(s).
Now that’s the real problem – not tariffs, but those who are saying they run this Nation.
Retaliatory Tariffs Only Harm Canadians
