Student of Catholic college helps restore painting featured on USPS Christmas stamp

A student of the Catholic Marian University in Indianapolis played a key role in restoring a 17th-century painting of the Madonna and Child that the United States Postal Service (USPS) selected as the image for its 2024 Christmas stamp.

The painting, attributed to the workshop of Italian artist Giovanni Battista Salvi da Sassoferrato, has been part of the Indianapolis Museum of Art at Newfields (IMA) collection since 1938, the Archdiocesan newspaper of Indianapolis reported.
