The economic cost of the 5-day reign of terror in Boston has to be beyond that of many recent natural disasters.
The law enforcement expenses alone with the huge numbers of officers from all around the area, the FBI, and the massive amounts of equipment. Then there was the lost revenue while the city was essentially shut down. There has been for the 7 days, around-the-clock news coverage - the only escape was to turn off the TV, radios and computers. The costs of the endless legal wrangling to bring the survivor to justice will be borne by the taxpayers of Massachusetts. It is an expense they can little afford. Worst of all is the medical and ongoing costs for the survivors and the families of the deceased.
I think the American people need to hear the total tab that this incident has cost. It is the only thing I can imagine that might, just might, wake them up. Those are dollars that aren't going to be spent fixing our economy, creating jobs, repairing infrastructure, educating kids or curing diseases. The cost of bringing such people into our country is too great in every measurable way.
