The letter to the editor about Tea Partiers being strong patriots hit the mark.
We are not the country we once were. We don't teach our children the history of our great country. We don't teach them the motivation and sacrifice of the first Americans.
We don't teach them why we were settled. How can they be proud of those accomplishments if they are not taught by the school and the parents?
How can our young people understand the erosion of our society and our rights unless they are taught about places where societies crumbled and places where people lost all their rights and then their lives?
We don't need to rewrite or water down history, we need to teach it so that every American child knows where they came from and realizes the blood that was spilled for them to live in freedom.
They need to understand the Constitution and the amazing, enduring principles within it. They need to learn about our 3 branches of government and the expectation of balanced and checked power. And we who fight on for these freedoms should demand these be taught because once they get to college, there is only the liberal twist being presented so without a firm basis in the first 12 years, students get a warped view.
