I am sad. Just so sad. Some of the very most special people in the world, my southern redneck friends, are coming under assault for displaying the confederate flag.
For these folks, the flag is a sign of pride. Pride in being southern. Pride in being redneck. The first is a regional thing, the second a lifestyle thing. They are honest, decent, resourceful, fun loving, people who work and play hard, appreciate country music, love tinkering on engines and driving big trucks. They are smart. They are loyal. They are kind, fair, honest and trustworthy. They come to your aid when called. There is no one I'd rather have watching my back. These people are not racist. They are not haters. But they are being swept up in a politically correct tornado that has absolutely nothing to do with them. So remember, the pickup truck you see with a confederate flag front plate or flying from the antenna or stenciled on the rear window is a person celebrating a lifestyle not a racist. I for one hope they continue. Jennie Veary
