True hierarchy of power – Romans 13"Let every soul be subject unto the higher powers. For there is no power but of God: the powers that be are ordained of God." Romans 13:1 Beginning with "every soul," there is an immediate assignment of who is subject to the power of God – "every soul." This does not exempt the persons given positions of power within any government, and particularly this government of the United States of America.
Too often have leaders of the church overlooked those sitting in office due to the fact that they have been afforded a level of authority within the construct of government. What is missed is that those wielding power are first under the authority of God, not themselves by virtue of their official status. Every office holder, from mayors to the President and any appointed magistrate or administrator are subject to God and what He has ordained. In the United States, that is the Constitution which codified the Declaration of Independence where the overall power of authority is named:
"When in the Course of human events it becomes necessary for one people to dissolve the political bands which have connected them with another and to assume among the powers of the earth, the separate and equal station to which the Laws of Nature and of Nature's God entitle them, a decent respect to the opinions of mankind requires that they should declare the causes which impel them to the separation. "We hold these truths to be self-evident, that all men are created equal, that they are endowed by their Creator with certain unalienable Rights, that among these are Life, Liberty and the pursuit of Happiness. — That to secure these rights, Governments are instituted among Men, deriving their just powers from the consent of the governed"… (emphasis, mine)
The first mistake made by those directing citizens to be subject to governmental edicts and constraints is to assume that officeholders are the authority. They are not. They are conferred limited power by those who constituted the government, the People. Yet the People are still not the highest authority, that station is held by God alone and every soul is subject to Him. How then is this hierarchical power to be demonstrated when there has been a backward application of authority? What has occurred in the United States is a complete inversion of the power structure that has educated citizens to believe that the servant government is the ultimate authority, that citizens, the People, are the slaves, and that God is removed from the chain of command altogether. Wrong. "Nature's God" entitled man to have "equal station" with all others. The Constitution did not create a governing system that subjects the People to their creation any more than the People are given authority over their Creator God. According to Romans 13:2, "whoever resisteth the power, resisteth the ordinance of God: and they that resist shall receive to themselves damnation," if persons in seats of authority are resisting the "ordinance of God" that is carefully inscribed in the Constitution, well, it's evident what they are incurring. In this nation, the rulers spoken of in Romans 13 are the People who crafted the Constitution that alludes to God as the ultimate authority, never an individual, judge or Congress who is allowed the privilege of holding office. The founders threw off monarchies, autocracies and oligarchies that lead to tyranny to constitute a government by the People, whose allegiance to God as first and final authority, established the system by which governing should occur. With care was the financial burden of government configured to protect and defend commerce that fed individual liberty. That meant paying for building and securing roads that citizens may travel safely with their belongings and merchandise, and establishing armed forces to protect commercial ventures on the high seas and guard the nation's shores and borders against enemy invasion. To do so required a loosely knit federation of independent states, each with their own constitution, governed by their own citizens.


Yet today Congress, the Executive and, in some cases the Judiciary, have usurped power to themselves to dictate and legislate authority over their governors that are the People. In so doing, they have seized power that was never delegated to them. The Constitution clearly limits their authority as subject to God who empowered the People who gave them access to office. Elected officials are tasked to "not be a terror" but to battle evil. "Wilt thou not be afraid of the power?" The power is ultimately the power of God, and any in office or of the People who do not honor and respect God, standing in fear of His judgments, are subject to wrath for doing evil. The ministers of God are those who establish His will and institute it, not those who blatantly work against it. That includes "every soul" – officeholders and citizens. All are subject to pay "tribute" for the upkeep of the nation's constitutional needs, no more, no less, and the founders clarified precisely how that is to be done, holding to God as the ultimate authority. The unconstitutional expansion of government "services" must be excised and the government returned to it duties of protecting commerce. The evil that has been introduced with God-reviling statutes that deify His creation in His place (the earth), is an affront to the true higher power. "Render therefore to all their dues; tribute to whom tribute is due; custom to whom custom; fear to whom fear; honour to whom honour." Romans 13:6 lays out the hierarchy that elected officials must render dues, tribute, custom, fear and honor to first the People and, above that, God who selected them to serve.
Deceit has ruled in Washington, D.C. and in many state capitals, coercing the People to pay tribute to the office holders instead of to God and His established rule that the Constitution defines. Romans 13:11-13 supplies what the next steps are to be taken by the People who wrote the Law of the Land, the Constitution:
And that, knowing the time, that now it is high time to awake out of sleep: for now is our salvation nearer than when we believed. The night is far spent, the day is at hand: let us therefore cast off the works of darkness, and let us put on the armour of light. Let us walk honestly, as in the day; not in rioting and drunkenness, not in chambering and wantonness, not in strife and envying. (emphasis, mine)
Will servants of the People, and the superior Lord, recognize how they have disregarded their duty and become purveyors of the evil they were chosen to oppose? Time, and action taken by the People to set circumstances in proper order to acknowledge God's authority, will tell.
