WASHINGTON, D.C. — It's time for the conservatives and moderates who now comprise some 70 percent of the American electorate to become as aggressive as the leftists who dominate the Mainstream Media.
That thought crossed my mind as I read a recent column by Jonathan Alter that was distributed by Bloomberg Business News and appeared in a number of leading U.S. newspapers, including the San Francisco Chronicle, Tacoma News-Tribune and Albany Times-Union.
The column — incredibly — ran under the headline: "The Obama Miracle, a White House Free of Scandal." Say, what? Believe it or not, Alter's column pretty much tracks the headline.
His lead paragraph sets the tone. "President Barack Obama goes into the 2012 with a weak economy that may doom his reelection. But he has one asset that hasn’t received much attention: He’s honest."
It's difficult to believe any journalist with eyes and a brain could actually write something so counter to the facts. Especially one who volunteers with an organization dedicated to assisting holocaust survivors. Apparently, Alter is so enamored with President Obama that he's willing to overlook a foreign policy that plays into the hands of the Islamists who want to destroy Israel and create a whole new generation of holocaust refugees.
From Alter's view through pink-coated lenses, not even a hint of scandal clings to Mr. Obama. Acorn, the Chicago cronyism distribution of billions of dollars of stimulus funds, Eric Holder, Steven Chu and Solyndra don't exist.
Unless he files his columns from Fantasyland, Alter must be keenly aware that a scandal-free Obama Administration is a campaign myth emanating from the Democratic National Committee's spin machine.
Chances are good that's the case. Alter, a pudgy, balding man in the twilight of his career, helped run the Washington Post's Newsweek magazine pretty much out of business in the last two decades of the 20th century. Now, in addition to his Bloomberg gig, he is a regular contributor to the NBC, MSNBC and CNBC, three money- hemorrhaging TV networks with a shortage of fact-checkers.
The networks currently are part of NBC Universal, a joint venture of Comcast and General Electric. Their commentators are overwhelming left-wing and include the dopey Chris Matthews and the angry Socialist Lawrence J. O'Donnell.
And here’s the rub. If these networks were promoting conservative or even moderate viewpoints, the left would be writing letters to the FCC demanding that they be taken off the air. And it would launch national campaigns aimed at boycotting Comcast and General Electric.
Generally, I don't believe in boycotts, but we live in a time of ultimate crisis. The Obama Administration is systematically destroying America's economy and its defense capability. It's time for conservatives and independents to fight back before we all become serfs.
Let's hit Comcast and General Electric with full-scale boycotts of their products and screaming sit-ins at their annual meetings. It's time to drop subscriptions to newspapers and magazines that run the idiocies of people like Alter and other inside-the-beltway schlumpfs that make six-figure salaries denigrating their country and its free-enterprise values.
In short, we can no longer stand by as the left runs rampant and mainstream media cheers. It's time to counterattack.
