Color me insulted

The reaction from Vern Buchanan and Tom Rooney to the new district lines seems telling. Buchanan said he would miss serving south Sarasota County but was looking forward to "meeting the people of Hillsborough County". On the other hand, Rooney said, "I'd be happier serving the constituents I've been serving."

Color me insulted. At least Buchanan had the grace to say he'd miss us. Rooney didn't even offer words of welcome or enthusiasm for our amazing piece of the world. Probably not a good way to start off. We've long been a political football and it looks like that won't change anytime soon. The sad thing is---our two counties weren't among those ordered to redistrict. District lines redrawn in other counties necessitated our redraw. I think Mr. Rooney owes South County an apology. R.
