‘Corporate’ OWS to occupy Rose Day Parade

Some 40,000 Occupy Wall Street (OWS) activists will cash in on Rose Day Parade publicity, Monday, Jan. 2, 2012. “Bring signs, banners & tents...AND YOUR IMAGINATION” is the rallying call.
“Worse than 1929? 1% owns 43% of U.S. wealth and 80% of global wealth.” Our forbears slogged it out in the Great Depression without the luxuries of cell phones and iPads. Their imagination was tested in trying to put food on the table for starving families. There was nobody down in the park in donated tents and army cots where gourmet food was delivered on site. “We will tent & gather from Sat., Dec. 31, 2011 through to 6 a.m. on Monday, Jan. 2, 2012,” states The “Occupy The Rose Parade” website. “In addition to streetside occupation and other strategies, we will be building an “Occupy WallStreet” Human Float for the global movement. Also: Bands, banner drops, dancers, clowns, old cars, impromptu marching bands..”This is What Democracy Looks Like”, Flag girls/men, etc.: A float is not the only option.”

Though they want ‘like’ this page” left on their Facebook page, “Occupy The Rose Parade” OWS want “No Twitter Feed” but “Word of Mouth” to spread their message. Rose Parade OWS seek to cash in on the major publicity that surrounds the televised Rose Parade: “Fyi, the 2011 Rose Parade had a total television reach of approximately 50 million U.S. television viewers and about 30 million viewers internationally (over 200,000,000 worldwide saw excerpts or segments of the full Rose Parade).” And their reminder that “Everything is not coming up roses for most Americans nor for the vast majority of the world’s population which is under the jackboot of corporations & U.S./U.K. proxy regimes everywhere”, is based on it being George W.’s and not Obama’s fault. The OWS’ Rose Day protest is based on 2008‘s anti-war, ‘ Impeach George W. Bush and Dick Cheney’ ‘White Rose Coalition’, when according to OWS “the top 1%’s bailouts were just beginning,.” OWS touts four demands for their Rose Parade crash:
  • Profit disgorgement & Punitive Actions (PRISON) for the CEOs & banks that benefited from the dot-com & real estate ponzi schemes of 1998-2008;
  • Reversal of Chief Justice Roberts & Supreme Court “Citizens United” ruling as well as immediate congressional action to ban Corporate Money from U.S. federal & state office elections;
  • Reinstitution of the 1930s Glass Steagal” wall that separated investment and commercial banking functions (no universal banks); and
  • Immediately restore the Capital Gains’ post 9/11’s 15% tax level back to the pre-G.W. Bush era (i.e. 30%; fyi, Capital Gains Tax rate was 49% in the 1960s).
Meanwhile, it takes a lot of money to send 40,000 activists, some of them traveling from Europe, to sunny California. Hypocritical anti-corporate OWS is as corporate as the enemy they protest against.
