TORONTO, March 30, 2009 – B’nai Brith Canada views the Federal Court’s decision to uphold the travel ban to Canada of UK Member of Parliament George Galloway as the “only appropriate course of action”.

“The Court has rightly chosen to uphold the Government’s decision to deny entry into this country of British MP George Galloway,” said Frank Dimant, B’nai Brith Canada’s Executive Vice President. “Canada’s border security, which initially stepped up to deny Galloway entry into Canada, was of the clear view that he posed a security threat to Canadians. “Galloway has openly admitted to aiding and abetting Hamas, a terrorist group outlawed in Canada and in many countries around the world. He also has a long public record of glorifying terrorism and espousing the pro-terrorist propaganda of groups that seek the destruction of the Jewish State. “The fact that organizers of the proposed Galloway visit have vowed to promote his message via live broadcasts in lieu of his actual in-person engagement, speaks volumes about the values these organizations represent. We question in particular the active defense of Galloway by the Metropolitan United Church in light of the despicable and hate-filled views he espouses.” B’nai Brith Canada has been active in Canada since 1875 as the Jewish community’s foremost human rights agency
