29th consecutive month of sales growth leads to best-ever May

Hyundai Canada Sets New May Sales Record

MARKHAM, ON, - Hyundai Auto Canada Corp. announced today that it has set a new record for the month of May after Hyundai dealerships sold 13,967 units, representing a gain of 10.7% over the same month last year. As a result, the company has achieved 29 consecutive months of year-over-year sales growth. Compared to the first five months of 2010, Hyundai Canada's 2011 year-to-date sales have increased by 9% to 55,286 units.

A number of awards were announced in May that led to increased consumer awareness of Hyundai's products. Most notably, the all-new Elantra was named the sixth Hyundai to achieve a "Top Safety Pick" designation by the US-based Insurance Institute for Highway Safety, joining Equus, Genesis, Santa Fe, Sonata and Tucson. The Elantra also placed first in comparison tests conducted by US publications Motor Trend magazine and Edmunds.com. Hyundai scored first in two separate Sympatico Autos comparison tests after the publication pitted the Sonata and Sonata 2.0T against a number of competitors. The company also announced that it had reduced the starting MSRP of the all-new 2012 Hyundai Accent by $1,100 (to $13,199) while adding approximately $1,500 in standard equipment. After two consecutive years as the best-selling subcompact in Canada, the Accent is poised to extend its leadership position as the completely redesigned vehicle began arriving at Hyundai dealers in May. "The unique combination of Hyundai quality, styling, safety, and value continues to get noticed by consumers and industry experts," said Steve Kelleher, President and CEO of Hyundai Auto Canada Corp. "After 28 years in Canada, the Accent has become the best-selling Hyundai vehicle. Just as the all-new Sonata and Elantra shook-up their respective intermediate and compact segments, after a complete redesign, so too will the new Accent as the all-new version will raise the benchmark in the subcompact segment."
