ICE Agents Trapped in Manhattan Garage After Protesters Form Human Barricade Near Canal Street

Federal immigration agents found themselves boxed in on Saturday afternoon when a crowd of anti-ICE demonstrators surrounded a Centre Street parking garage and refused to let government vehicles exit. The confrontation began just after 4 p.m., moments before ICE was expected to move toward Canal Street, a corridor long associated with counterfeit designer goods. Videos posted online showed protesters chanting “ICE out of New York” as they formed a human barricade at the garage entrance, reportedly after warning vendors to clear the area.

Witnesses said activists moved quickly once word spread that agents were preparing for an enforcement action near the busy retail strip. Several vendors fled their stalls, while others locked up early. The scene drew immediate attention from passersby and local residents, some of whom described the crowd as “charged” and “unusually organised” given the short notice.
