Making The Simple Complicated



There must be lawyers involved somewhere in the NFL controversy. Only they can make any issue more complicated than it needs to be. Yes, we have First Amendment rights. Yes, we can say almost anything we want and have it be perfectly legal. With that out of the way, let's get through all the fog and filthy air.
Forget for a moment how incredibly ignorant, near sighted and ungrateful these players are...is the NFL a business? Do businesses need customers? Are the employees on company time while on the field? While on company time, do the employees represent the companies they work for? Would any well-managed business allow their employees, or turn a blind eye to their employees, routinely offending their customers? Would these businesses remain in business or their employees remain employed? No one has ever suggested an employee of any of these teams can not express their opinions off the field. They have numerous opportunities to do so with TV appearances, interviews, speeches, books, book signings, whatever. They can even direct their disdain for their country at their realtor as they shop for a mansion or country villa. The NFL is doing what many failed businesses have done in the past...put the interests of their customers aside. Many of those paying customers have had enough. I have never worked for any employer that would put up with such nonsense. Yes, in spite of all the bloviating, it is that simple.
