Fentanyl fuels so much personal implosion and communal instability now. Combined with an enabling ideology and an absentee mayor about to be federally indicted, the human right of safety here is up for grabs.

I agree with constitutional carry. And grudgingly agreed during deep dissent that concealed carry permits were better than not being able to legally conceal firearms at all. And I agree with neighborhood watch. And I agree with citizens patrol. And definitely agree with private security for public spaces. And lastly, I agree with alot of other safety creating 'ands'.
Why?
I'm not a safe suburbanite. Their conceivable conflicts are largely resolved by meetings with homeowners associations or alternative dispute resolution sessions.
I'm an urbanite in the 'Zomb', short for 'Zombie Gotham' of New Orleans and is analogous with other captive cities where conflicts routinely become combative, life threatening and deadly.
What's left of my cold heart has a warm spot for good people trying to outwit and outfight if needed, bad people crossing their paths.
Speaking of good people outwitting bad ones, got in last night from serving as a greeter (shhh!, security without using the 's' word) at a showing for an art gallery of which I'm a proud institutional friend.
One of its owners responded, along with me and the homeless Brother who lives at the nearby street car stop, to nocturnal screams of a woman who was knocked off her bicycle and robbed near our homes years ago.
That's the kind of spontaneous safety creation anyone hopes would muster in their defense after being attacked.
It was a great exercise of the civil right of safety by three very different men mobilized by the same pressing concern.
In the mid twenty-teens of this century I used to often say safety was a civil right- and it is. However, if the constitution and every other rights recognizing document were shredded, what would remain is our humanity and rights written on our beings these documents recognized.
Safety is a human right. Whether one is into natural law or arrived at this conclusion from other philosophies or experiences, you are your own document containing your rights.
That conclusion is vital in cities like mine where a nominally anti-gun jurisdiction is overrun by under-arrested, under-charged and under-prosecuted traitors to my community. They're viral violence and disruption prominently propelled the current Republican governor of Louisiana into office.
Centrality of this human right has been with me since growing up with a maternal grandfather whose decency, interest in community well-being and imagination informed my safety interest.
Crack cocaine's 1980s-1990s destruction of safe communities I and other Black Generation Xers matured in pushed the human right of safety to the forefront of my consciousness, where it remains to this day.
Fentanyl fuels so much personal implosion and communal instability now. Combined with an enabling ideology and an absentee mayor about to be federally indicted, the human right of safety here is up for grabs.
That's why I try to motivate and mobilize folks to practice their human right of safety so we displace 'unsafety' underwritten by an enabling ideology.
