Queen’s Park – This week alone, Ontario families have been stuck with over $ 3 billion more that will land on their hydro bills thanks to Dalton McGuinty’s expensive energy experiments. Today, only two weeks after backtracking on offshore wind farms to save the Energy Minister’s seat, the government unbelievably announced a $ 3 billion expansion of his industrial wind farms and expensive energy experiments.
But it gets worse. Families are also being stuck with an $18 million bill for fines local utilities incurred for overcharging them. Families were being charged an effective interest rate of 60% annually, which is illegal under the Criminal Code. But even though the Court ruled in their favour, families still lose because they are being handed the bill.
In April 2010, almost a year ago, the Ontario PC’s brought forward a motion and called on Dalton McGuinty to stop these industrial wind farms and let communities have a say. Dalton McGuinty should do the right thing and put a moratorium on all industrial wind farms and show some respect to local families who keep getting stuck with the bill.
