Seeking Peace Amidst Violent Revolution

Erika Kirk forgave the assassin who killed her husband, Charlie Kirk. Forgiveness is not an action that condones, but one that recognizes God’s mercy. It is not earned, bargained for, or deserved. It is given freely by God to us, and as followers of Christ when we give forgiveness it should carry with it the same gravity and grace. This is not to say that consequences should not still be applied for a deed taken by a person who committed an evil action.

I may forgive the man who punched me in the face, but I will still put up my hands in defense and take appropriate actions if necessary to defend myself. But, harboring bitterness is spiritual poison. However, not standing one’s ground is individual or societal suicide. With that said, we must understand that what we face today in our topsy-turvy world is not the actions of men as much as it is a part of a spiritual war that is older than any human civilization. We are a part of it, and we must act accordingly.

Their reflex was predictable: call for more violence, blame Charlie Kirk and conservative ideals, blame religious speech, blame the gun, blame anything they can other than their ideology or the killer.

Do we blame cars for drunk driving? Guns don’t commit violence. People do. But for the Left, facts are irrelevant when emotion can be weaponized.

The anti-gun rhetoric is especially exploding. This is not a new battle. For decades, progressives have targeted the Second Amendment, seeking to dismantle the constitutionally enumerated right to keep and bear arms. As freedom-minded states pass Constitutional Carry laws, the most radical blue states double down on gun restrictions. The result? Their violent crime rates remain among the worst in the country. Criminals thrive in gun-free zones. Shooters seek out soft targets. They love to operate inside regions that are soft on crime, and even softer on penalties. Reality dictates that the best way to approach the issue is with appropriate laws coupled with appropriate punishment, and then as a result of those laws (or lack thereof) that on the scene a good guy with a gun is present to stop a bad guy with a gun.

Fortunately, the tide is turning slightly.

A federal court has ordered New York to pay over $817,000 in legal fees to “His Tabernacle Church,” which successfully challenged the 2022 Concealed Carry Improvement Act; a law signed by Governor Kathy Hochul that banned firearms in so-called “sensitive locations,” including churches. The church’s victory is a win not just for religious liberty, but for armed self-defense in sacred spaces.

Gun-free zones like churches and schools don’t deter killers. They invite them. Concealed carry changes the equation. When a shooter knows someone might be armed, but doesn’t know who, it forces the shooter to consider the consequences of his actions should a good guy with a gun be in the room. That, ultimately, saves lives.

Massie and other critics argue that the law leaves schools defenseless, turning classrooms into targets.

Let’s be clear: guns aren’t the problem. The problem is the people pulling the trigger. And increasingly, those people are radicalized leftists, often with ties to extremist ideologies including transgender activism. Yet, Democrats continue to pour gasoline on the fire with dangerous rhetoric.

Take Iowa congressional candidate Xavier Carrigan. He doesn’t just reject compromise, he glorifies violence. “When they go low,” Carrigan shouted to applause, “we drive our knee right into their face.” On his website, Carrigan declares politics in America today is a war against “fascism.” He has bought into, and pushes, the Left’s narrative that Trump is Hitler and his supporters are fascists. If you’re not all-in on his radicalism, he says, you’re “failing the people you claim to represent.”

Even after Charlie Kirk’s murder, Carrigan showed no remorse. Instead of condemning the violence, he took to TikTok to spread conspiracy theories, suggesting conservatives orchestrated the attack themselves.

This is the climate we’re in. And it’s precisely why the principles behind the Second Amendment must not only be defended, they must be exercised.

The FBI is currently investigating over 1,700 domestic terrorism cases. And realize, the violence isn’t just coming from guns. In New Hampshire, 22-year-old Tristan Anderson was arrested for plotting to assassinate Republican Governor Kelly Ayotte using homemade pipe bombs. Authorities described the devices as weapons of mass destruction. Anderson’s digital trail revealed bomb-making boasts, anti-Semitic rants, and threats against Ayotte for her Catholic faith.

This is the fruit of the Left’s long march through our institutions. They’ve cultivated extremism in classrooms, media, and government. They’ve imported chaos through open borders. And now, with the assassination of Charlie Kirk, the Marxist revolution is no longer theoretical, it’s violently underway.

As we watch violence on the rise, like at a wedding in New Hampshire where a gunman killed one and injured two, shouting “Free Palestine” as he opened fire during the couple’s first dance, the Democrats stand against every proposal by President Trump and the Republicans to stem the violence.

We have example after example that soft-on-crime policies only fuel the fire. In Sacramento, a man who opened fire on a news station was released, and had to be re-arrested by the FBI hours later. This is what happens when lawlessness is tolerated and accountability is abandoned.

From the “Summer of Love” riots to today’s targeted killings, this isn’t random chaos, either. What we are witnessing is indoctrinated violence. The Left teaches it, excuses it, and weaponizes it. And their reaction to the bloodshed reveals everything.

Compare the aftermath of George Floyd’s death to Charlie Kirk’s. Floyd’s death triggered five months of riots, arson, looting, and attacks on police. Kirk’s death? No riots. No destruction. No calls for violence. Just thousands of Americans joining Turning Point USA, pledging peaceful political engagement.

While Vice President Kamala Harris once cheered on the riots: “They’re not gonna stop… and they should not” … Kirk’s supporters are urging Americans to vote, not burn. That contrast speaks volumes.

So how do we turn this around?

Benjamin Franklin warned, “Only a virtuous people are capable of freedom. As nations become corrupt and vicious, they have more need of masters.” That truth echoes louder today than ever. We need to recognize, though, that the answer isn’t just political. It’s spiritual. How can we get our political house in order if we don’t have our godly house in order?

In the wake of Kirk’s assassination, churches are seeing a surge in attendance. At Convo Church in Reno, Nevada, Pastor Craig Dyson described the weekend as “unlike anything we’ve seen.” Americans are hungry for truth, for virtue, for God.

So let’s act as God wants us to. Let’s meet that hunger for God’s Word. Let’s lean on God. Pray. Fellowship. Join together as the Founding Fathers “with a firm reliance on the protection of divine Providence.” Let’s fight not just with ballots and laws, but with righteousness, resolve, and revival.
