Free long distance calls to Japan from TELUS wireless devices and home phones extended to April 30

TELUS extending support of Japanese relief efforts

VANCOUVER, March 30 /CNW/ - TELUS is extending its support of relief efforts in Japan to the end of April. Through to April 30, TELUS consumer customers can continue to make free long distance calls to Japan on their wireless devices and home phones. "The tragedy in Japan continues to affect TELUS team members and our customers, and we want to do what we can to support them at this challenging time, so we will continue to offer free calls with their loved ones until April 30," said David Fuller, TELUS Chief Marketing Officer. "The entire TELUS team will do what we can to offer our ongoing support through this terrible situation that has affected so many."

TELUS customers have already made nearly 40,000 free calls to Japan on their wireless devices and home phones since TELUS introduced the free calling on March 11. TELUS customers can also continue to be a part of the relief efforts as well by donating funds to key relief agencies on their mobile devices through the end of the year:
  • Text "QUAKE" to 45678 to donate $10 to The Salvation Army in Canada
  • Text "ASIA" to 30333 to donate $5 to The Canadian Red Cross Society
These organizations will ensure the funds help those who need it most. TELUS works with the Mobile Giving Foundation to make these donations available through mobile technology. Additionally, TELUS and its team members are donating $100,000 to registered Canadian charities active in relief efforts and matching all donations made by its team members. TELUS has a proud history of stepping up to help when disasters strike. Since 2000, TELUS has donated more than $1M to Canadian registered charities in support of humanitarian relief efforts in Haiti, Chile, Philippines, Newfoundland, and Kelowna.
